Autodesk labs | Interactive Terrain Shaping for Civil 3D

imageThe toolset that many have been waiting for was just released on Autodesk labs. The Interactive Terrain Shaping for AutoCAD Civil 3D. These tools give Civil 3D users the capability to shape and mold various features related to grading, with direct pick, apply, and drag functionality. The Labs site stated that the intent was to "facilitate the development of comprehensive grading plans that can be easily tuned through the development cycle".

AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 Update 1

Incase you are depending on on Civil4d.com for all your AutoCAD Civil 3D knowledge :-), or your Autodesk communication center is turned off, or your company has blocked all your social media accounts; I decided to post the news that Civil 3D 2012 Update 1 has been released and is ready for download.  Follow the link to take you to the download page.

Underutilized Profile View Graphics (HATCH)

I’ve found, while working with customers, that one very useful component of profile views has been underutilized since its addition in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010. This component I’m referring to is the profile view hatch. The initial perception users have of this component is that it is only used to show cut and fill locations between an existing surface and a proposed surface. But, that’s not the only use. When creating multiple proposed surfaces that are based on material (ie. Paving), this component adds an additional dimension to profile views. Reviewers and contractors can now see an added entity that helps in deciphering the vertical scale and location of underground utilities. In this post I’ll share with you an easy way to use this graphic which will add more meaning to your profile views.
