There are so many blog posts to keep up with that sometimes you think you read something but can never find it when you are looking for it. This happened recently in a class where I was teaching those who put as-builts together using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013. I thought I had read in a blog post awhile back that AutoCAD 2013 has a new feature where you can ‘strike-through’ (example) text. This would be instrumental to those doing as-builts. However, when we placed some Mtext in and the Mtext contextual tab came up, there was no such option. No worries, I will just bring up the properties palette but the option is not there either.

Civil 3D 2013 will not have Google Earth extensions. This may seem inconsequential to many, however it is an absolute life saver in so many workflows. This will unfortunately set the industry back a step by removing a process that gave engineers and planners access to geo-referenced images and terrain models instantly in Civil 3D, a process that we’ve enjoyed since 2008.
2013 “Hidden” Feature
Short post today folks, but not short on usefulness. One thing I hear a lot of is “I love the auto-linework I get from the survey database, but I can’t use that linework for my construction drawings because of two things.

Export to PDF Options
I’ve run into a few new Civil 3D users recently who weren’t aware that when Exporting to PDF in Civil 3D you allow the recipient of the PDF to turn layers on and off (which sometimes may be a good thing or a bad thing). This is controlled by a setting that can be turned on and off but it defaults to Include when Civil 3D is installed.
