James at AU

I’m headed to my tenth (!) AU on Monday morning and hope to see you there. I’m working in the Autodesk AEC Lounge this year, along with Nick Zeeben, Jason Hickey, Dana Judge, and a whole host of other smart folks, so come pick our collective brains.

I’ll be teaching on Tuesday, then in the AEC Lounge on Wednesday from 8-4 (minus the keynote,) then on Thursday from 10-2.The first person to mention Raider Consulting in the AEC Lounge will get a copy of the market-leading Mastering AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 book. You can probably even get Scott and I to deface it if you’d like.

This will be a short year for me this year, not being part of the EE booth lets me get out of Vegas right at my threshold, so I’m on a Thursday night flight. Short and sweet this year, but I still hope to see a lot of you there!

Scattershooting: Marathons, AU, Golf, and a Call to Writers

First things first, I’m a whopping 17 days to my first and last marathon. I’m running on October 25th in the Marine Corp Marathon to raise money for Push America. You can learn more about Push America by visiting  www.pushamerica.org and more about the Wounded Warrior Project at  www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Push America and the Wounded Warrior Project are both 501(c)3 organizations and your donation may qualify for corporate matching.

If Civil3d.com helps you do your job, please consider making a donation. I’ll send a dual-signed copy of Mastering to anyone or any company that donates $100. Consider it $50 for the book, $50 for the blog, and you’re still way ahead. I’m very close to my fund-raising goal and appreciate your support.

2010 Errata. Yes, already.

Working through a recording for the YouTube channel last night, I found the first errata for Mastering 2010.

  • On page 15, the Macro Name should be, ExcelFunctions.ExportToExcel, not PipeSample

We strive to prepare a good text, free of errors, but things are bound to happen. If you find what you think is an error, please visit the Errata page here at civil3d.com. If you don’t see a solution there, let me know and we’ll sort it out as quickly as possible. Thanks.

Mastering Civil 3D 2010 Shipping, Bonus Easter Egg Edition!

Initial copies left the publisher’s warehouse earlier this week, and some should start arriving to customers this week. I’ll send the first person to send me a picture a second signed copy. Additionally, there’s an Easter Egg in this edition. It’s not easy, so I’ll send the first person to find it a swag bag with some still to be determined goodness. Autodesk backpack, software, jump drives, not sure, but it’ll be worth something on the black market.

You can order your copy here, and while you’re spending a few bucks, remember to make a quick donation in support of my Marine Corps Marathon run!

Oh, and yes, there’s an egg in C3D 2010, I put it there. No, I’m not telling you where, but I’ll send a book to the first person to find it (unless you’re one of the ones I’ve told….)

EECast Reminder and New Co-Author for Mastering

Quick hits as I prepare to walk into a class this morning:

  • Monday, Dec 15th’s EECast is an encore of the Intro to ProPack Hyrdo from a few weeks back. Sorry about the confusion!
  • The next week (Dec 22), we’ll have Introduction to Transportation Design. Based on the new white papers we prepared for Autodesk, Eric will run through the elements of a corridor and get you ready for the more advanced class on Dec 29th. Please remember, recordings are now reserved for our CivilAccess customers.
  • I’m pleased to announce that my long time friend Scott McEachron has partnered with me to co-author the next edition of Mastering. We’re looking forward to a great new edition. If you’ve used the 2008 or 2009 edition, we’d appreciate your feedback TODAY as we’re already starting on these important updates. Drop a comment here, or at james.wedding@ this domain.

Have a great weekend, wish me luck at the White Rock Half Marathon! You can still support my run and this great cause by clicking here.
