Reintroducing the Civil Engineering Resource Center

And he’s back! I told you I’d drop in on occasion to share some things from the Autodesk world. Here’s the first video I’ve worked on, letting you know a bit more about my role within Autodesk and the Civil Engineering Resource Center.

Thanks-JW

The Claw Chooses Who Will Go….

With apologies to all the Toy Story fans, I’m very excited to announce that I’ve taken a position with Autodesk as Frontline Technical Specialist for Civil Engineering. I get to work with Angel, Jerry, Josh, Steve and Tanya showing the potential of AutoCAD Civil 3D to folks all over the country. I might even get to team back up with Dana on occasion! I’ll be doing most of my work through the Civil Engineering Resource Center, but will also be traveling some, so hopefully I’ll get to meet more of you.

I want to thank all of you for being part of the civil3d.com community, and especially those of you that were clients of Raider Consulting. I’ve gotten to know great Civil 3D folks all over the world and gotten to enjoy learning all about the different approaches we all take to CAD and engineering both.

So, what’s this mean for civil3d.com? Not much. The rest of the crew here will be working to still provide the top notch tips, tricks, and general genius that they have for the last four years. I hope you’ll continue to visit, or perhaps even take this as a sign that it’s time to step up and write for this blog. If you’re interested, drop me a line, wedding@ this domain.

Thank you again, and I’ll see you soon.

James

Fry Your Brain with SITEOPS® (Repeat)

(Yes, I’m repeating this post. There’s another seminar tomorrow, register here.)

One of my favorite feelings is when I can watch a demo and feel my jaw drop. Civil 3D the first time, iPhoto with Face matching, Sketchbook on the iPhone. The past few years, I’ve always made a point to visit SITEOPS crew at AU. I saw some of their stuff a few years back, and it was neat, but felt a bit of a one-trick pony. This year? I got my jaw dropped. We had a few minutes to chat, and I am just blown away by how much this stuff has improved in the current releas

So, want to enjoy a good smile and watch how design should be done? They’re hosting a webinar on Wednesday to discuss how their clients use SITEOPS in the site design process for schools, but I think you’ll see quickly how your company could use this. There’s a 10 minute demo here and check out the full webinar. Be sure to bring a napkin for the drool.

Migrating Your Vault to 2011

If you’re running Vault in 2010, and getting ready to make the move to 2011, there’s a couple of things you need to do to make the change. They’re certainly not major issues, but they could lead to some head scratching from you and your users. Make the jump to see what’s happening.

Replay: AEC Press Day LiveBlog

First, a huge thank you to Paul Sullivan and David Mills for hosting me in Waltham earlier this week at AEC Press Day. It was a real honor to be among the bloggers picked from around the entire AEC space to be invited, and I had a great time visiting with the full AEC team. I especially enjoyed learning about some products I almost never touch, and having my mind blown with possibility for collaboration across the A, the E, and the C in the 2011 release.

There’s a huge amount of stuff going on across the board with AEC in the 2011 release, and between all the teams, they tried to show it all in just around four hours once you discount breaks, etc. To try and keep up, I was feeding thoughts to an alternate twitter account, and managed to rack up enough output to get tagged a twitter spammer. I feel proud.

So, I know a lot of folks had no chance to possibly keep up with the stream coming from yesterday, so I’m pulling it over here with a few minor edits for typing etc. Make the jump to get a full day of stream of consciousness, live from AEC Press day in Waltham.
