Bring on the coding

There seems to be a lot of love in the air here at Civil3d.com.

I am curious are you doing what you love? Is working with Civil3D doing – whatever – what you dreamed you were going to do when you ‘grew up’ (I’ll use that term loosely).

The reason I ask is because I wanted to be in construction when I was younger (first Electrician, then Concrete). Civil Engineering and Site Design was a natural transition of career as I ‘grew up’. I am now realizing that somewhere along the way, I fell in love with software development. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy designing, especially when I am working with Civil3D. And training – to see someone’s eyes when they learn something new for the first time – priceless. Nevertheless, to be able to create a tool from scratch has caused me multiple sleepless nights throughout the past 9 years or so because I am so excited to continue, I actually can’t sleep!! No wonder my wife calls it a sick ‘hobby’ 😉

The whole reason I am boring you all with this is because I sit back and try to figure out how I can add to the Civil3d.com community when you have such great posters here. James as the IT guy and the author of books, Eric as the ‘grading guru’, Matt as the ‘hydro helper’, and many others. What can I bring? Well, I always heard stick to your strengths so I am going to be focusing my posts here more on coding, especially coding within AutoCAD Civil3D. What do you think?

In the meantime, I am still curious. What DID you dream of being (doing) when you ‘grew up’?
