New for Civil 3D 2009: Free Curve By Best Fit

Have you ever wrestled with alignment curves in Civil 3D? You want a flexible, free curve that is constrained by radius, but you’d like it to come close to a certain location, or maybe even follow a few Civil 3D points.

Civil 3D 2009 adds some new alignment curve tools to help. Find out more after the jump.

There are best fit options for all three curve types.

You can pick places on the screen, points, acad points, entities…

A red curve comes up as a preview.

You can assign more weight to a given point, or remove one from consideration in the Panorama that appears. Once you approve it, the curve becomes “live” with all of the flexibility you love from a free curve.

I also see this being my go-to tool for those pesky end-of-road and cul-de-sac floating curves.
