The Part Builder Enigma- Help for 2008

Part Builder is a mystery to us all- ok.. except for maybe one guy in Europe and Nick Z.  Anyway, its been this scantily documented black box of magic for a few releases now.

Well somebody in Manchester must love us, because the User’s Guide for 2008 (you know the one that was taller than my TRex when printed) has a large illustrated section on Part Builder.

Because I have yet to produce anything except for some very skinny cleanouts and a football shaped (but nicely parametric) pipe, I have bound this particular section and placed it on my nightstand.

I know there are many of you out there who have been waiting for this, so even if you don’t start using Civil 3D 2008 right away, it is probably worth grabbing the User’s Guide pdf when it comes through subscription so that you can learn your Part Builder.

There are very clear illustrations of things like work planes, and definitions galore.  All told, it’s about 100 pages of Part Builder heaven.  A far cry from the completely undocumented 2006 tool, and the cocktail napkin sized help file for it in 2007.

I debated whether or not I should tell you about this since I wanted everyone to think I was really smart for figuring it all out by myself… but that just isn’t in my nature I guess 🙂

If everybody understands how to use Partbuilder then what is Nick going to teach at AU?

  2. Thanks Dana for the info.
    We could use that.
Steve I have a couple ideas but doubt they would pass the Editor’s scrutiny.;)

Has anyone figured out how to place dual lines using pipe networks? I have tried to figure out how to build a dual pipe part size but i have not been successful. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know how to build a “Dual Line” pipe in Civil 3D? I want to run 2 pipes side by side and the only way I can figure out how to do it is to have two structures upstream and downstream so that it shows up in plan correctly. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Guys and Gals. I am having trouble displayng the structures I created in part builder for a pipe network. I have read the partbuilder user guide section several times, followed the example instructions and srill can not get the structures to show in a pipe network. I thought it was the placement of the insertion point but I am not having much luck. Can anyone help???????
