New Corridor Goodies in Civil 3D 2008

They talked me into posting about 2008… This might be like the time that my friend ran into 7-11 for a pack of gum and told me to leave the car running…  but we’ll see.

A few things that strike me as AWESOME improvements to corridors:

1. DO A JIG WITH YOUR INTERACTIVE BOUNDARY

Dance for joy boundary enthusiasts!  What used to be a royal pain in the feature line is now as easy as parcel layout.  The Corridor interactive boundary gives you a “jiggy” that chases your feature lines and makes corridor boundaries a breeze.  I beat the heck out of this one over the past few weeks and I have yet to find something I don’t like about it.

2. BETTER REGION CONTROL: ROLL UP/ROLL DOWN; SELECT ALL/DESELECT ALL; SET ALL FREQUENCIES

For those of us that love the 10 billion baseline corridor but hated the constant expand/contract of the parameters window and the tedious check-check-check boxes…  Not to mention going through and setting each region to sample at a smaller interval…They have now added some buttons that make managing those big corridors so easy.

I am so spoiled by this now, last night I sent a drawing to our old friend Nick that had a 100ish baseline corridor in it and since I was working in an older version and didn’t have these buttons, I told him it was his problem.  How quickly we become soft, eh?

3. HATCH OR ASSIGN RENDER MATERIALS TO YOUR CORRIDOR AUTOMATICALLY

You can now apply fill style and render materials by code.  So you can assign everything in the PAVE code to be black, Curb to be grey, etc. without any special boundaries or tricks.

Before… a Normal Everyday Corridor

When Code Material Area Fill Style Applied…

Happy Valentine’s Day!  And remember- Cupid made me do it! (Ok, maybe it was James)

I dare any developer out there to make a subdivision with a road like that. How cool would that be from the air?

After I make my next million $$$ I plan on buiding a campground called Shamrock Place. Want to guess what the main roads for that will look like? 🙂

Hi Dana. I’m trying to apply fill style to by code. It works well but my stationing ticks are bellow the fill. The draw order command take all corridor, not the material. How can I bring them up?
Thank You very much and I’m sorry about my english.
